Apologies to those who planned to attend that day. I will be out of town, but the folks at B&N have kindly offered to reschedule. I'll post the new date when it's finalized.
My neighborhood Barnes and Noble is sponsoring a book signing for Neptune's Children on May 24 from 12-2, at 12 W. Rand Road. The store has been a great supporter of my books in the past, so please stop by and visit! (I will bring candy.)
Be sure to stop by for a signing of my new book, Neptune's Children, on May 2 from 5-7 at the Barnes and Noble Bookstore in Vernon Hills, IL, at the Westfield shopping center.
Anderson's Bookshop, a phenomenal store in Naperville IL, recently held its annual Children's Literature breakfast. As one of the invited authors, I was able to meet with hundreds of teachers, librarians, and book lovers from around the state, and was treated to keynotes by nationally known writers including Richard Peck. A big thank you to Andersons for arranging the event, and for making me a part of it.
I'm honored to have been asked to be a guest author at the Young Writer's Conference, which will be held May 17-18 at ISU. Over 600 teens from around the state will attend, and I'm looking forward to meeting as many of them as possible. Thank you to Jan from Anderson's Bookshops in Naperville for inviting me!
I was recently asked to be a judge for "Fire and Ice," a contest for young writers sponsored by the Romance Writer's of America. Along with several other authors, I had the pleasure of reading submissions for a number of talented writers. I'll be eager to see who wins!
Neptune's Children has a release date! Look for it in May 2008, just in time for spring. Check out Amazon.com for pre-orders and updates.
Thanks to my wonderful agent, Erin Murphy, I just sold my second book to Walker Books/Bloomsbury USA. (Bloomsbury UK is the publisher that launched Harry Potter, so I now feel like the unknown, possibly unwanted, and extraordinarily distant relative of J.K Rowling. But even that makes me proud.)
Neptune's Children takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where the adults have died after biological warfare. It focuses on the society built by a group of kids left stranded in a Disney-like theme park. Walker bought the book on the basis of five chapters, so no release date is set. I'll keep you posted!
The Daily Herald recently published a wonderful interview that tells about Dream Spinner's 20-year journey from idea to publication. The interview has been reprinted on the FoxReality website, so please check it out there.
I'm thrilled to tell all of you that Dream Spinner has been chosen for Book Sense's Autumn Children's Picks list. This is a list of recommended picks that goes out to over 1,200 independent bookstores nationwide.
Independent booksellers select books for this list by nominating titles after reading advance reading copies. It's quite an honor, and a big boost for the book. So thanks to all of you for your belief in me and all of your good wishes!
My first interview can be viewed at the wonderful teen book website, Veronika Asks. She's very creative with her questions, so the interview was quite a lot of fun. Please check it out!
